If you have been holding off on getting a Kindle Scribe because of the price, Amazon just gave you a reason to reconsider. The Kindle Scribe without Front Light is now available for purchase on Amazon for $429.99, making it $70 cheaper than the standard Kindle Scribe.

Amazon first announced this model back in 2025, and it has finally arrived. However, the one catch is right there in the name. There is no front light, which means reading or writing in dim environments will be trickier than on the pricier model.

What does Kindle Scribe without Front Light offer?

This device comes with the same 11-inch glare-free display and paper-like writing feel as the standard model. It is just 5.4mm thin, weighs 400g, and runs on a quad-core processor that makes writing and page turns 40% faster than previous generations.

The main differences from the standard model are the missing front light and a storage cap of 16GB, compared to 32GB or 64GB on the pricier version. On the software side, you still get full access to AI-powered notebook tools, including search, summaries, handwriting-to-text conversion, and the ability to import documents from Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive.

The new Story So Far feature is now live on all Kindle devices

Amazon has also rolled out ‘Story So Far’ across all modern Kindle devices and the Kindle app on Android and iOS. It is an AI-powered catch-up tool that generates spoiler-free summaries of a book’s plot and characters, tailored specifically to the page you are currently on.

It covers thousands of popular English-language titles from the Kindle Store and Kindle Unlimited, and is available to US customers running software version 5.19.4.0.1 or above. To access it, tap the three-dot menu while reading or long-press a book in your library to find the recap button.
