UPDATE: Battlefield 6’s Battle Royale Mode Is Called REDSEC, Is Free-To-Play, And Is Out Now

Update 10/28/25:

True to its word, today EA launched REDSEC, a free-to-play Battlefield battle royale mode, alongside Battlefield 6’s first season of content.

According to a press release, REDSEC is “a genre shifting free-to-play destination built on Battlefield’s iconic DNA, featuring a bold new take on the Battle Royale genre, an intense squad-based competitive mode called Gauntlet and new ways to unlock the power of Portal.”

In other words, similar to Call of Duty: Warzone, REDSEC is a free-to-play game that exists alongside the main, paid Battlefield 6 experience. REDSEC also includes Gauntlet, a squad-based competitive mode where eight teams of four players compete in 5-minute “round-based missions in a tournament-style format.” REDSEC’s first map, Fort Lyndon, is “Battlefield’s biggest map ever,” accommodating 100 players at once.

On the Battlefield 6 side of things, its first season begins today, adding three new weapons, a new map called Blackwell Fields, a new Strikepoint mode, and a 100-tier battle pass. This first phase is called “Rogue Operations”; more season 1 content will drop throughout the year, including California Resistance on November 18 and Winter Offensive on December 9.

The original story, written 10/27/25, story continues below.

It’s official: the rumored (and heavily leaked) Battlefield 6 battle royale mode is real, and it’s free-to-play, launches tomorrow on October 28, and is called REDSEC. This news arrives via the official gameplay trailer premiere countdown on the Battlefield YouTube channel, which features a header image showcasing the REDSEC name and a description that says it will be free-to-play and launching tomorrow.

This battle royale mode has long been rumored, with Insider Gaming publishing an article more than a month ago stating it will launch on October 28. Since then, various leaks have emerged to reveal details today’s premiere countdown confirms, like the free-to-play nature and the name. Regardless, REDSEC is real and launching tomorrow. We’ll update this story tomorrow when the trailer goes live.
