There’s no rest for the Doomguy, who’s dragged back into another hellish ordeal very soon. Bethesda has just revealed DOOM: The Dark Ages Revelations, which is a new campaign expansion for the 2025 game. The fresh content for DOOM: The Dark Ages is dropping on July 7, 2026, with the add-on bringing new levels, demons, and a weapon that sounds tailor-made for DOOM”s brand of chaos.
New strange chapter for the Slayer
According to Bethesda’s official announcement, Revelations puts the Slayer in a grim purgatory after being wounded and betrayed. The story sends him through a psychological prison of sorts, where he has to face uncomfortable truths, gain new strength with the help of a mysterious ally, and eventually take on what Bethesda describes as an abomination of the gods.
While the gameplay will mostly be the same experience, the studio is also teasing “new mysteries” and deeper puzzles. The Dark Ages already leaned into a more grounded flavor of DOOM combat compared to Eternal’s hyper-mobile dance of death, and Revelations seems built to expand that darker medieval identity rather than simply throw more arenas at players.
How the Chain Spear is the main attraction
The big new combat toy is the Chain Spear, which is built for more aggressive playstyles. It isn’t a just new way of attacking either, as you also get enhanced mobility with this weapon. The company is framing it as a weapon that rewards mastery, which should be good news for players who like DOOM when it asks them to think fast while turning demons into a bloody mist.
It also sounds like a smart fit for The Dark Ages’ combat rhythm. The base game already lets players shred through hell with weapons like the Shield Saw, while also mixing in larger set pieces such as the Mecha Dragon and Atlan mech sequences. But the Chain Spear is the aggressive tool to control space and close gaps.
Aside from this, Bethesda is also releasing Ripatorium 3.0 on July 7 as a free update for all DOOM: The Dark Ages players. The update adds deeper customization, improved pass code generation, and personal presets to the arena challenge mode. Players who own Revelations will also unlock three additional Ripatorium maps, demons, and fully upgraded new weapons after completing the expansion’s story.
Revelations is included with the Premium Edition and Collectors Bundle at no extra cost. Base game owners can buy it separately for $19.99, or upgrade to the Premium Edition for $34.99. DOOM: The Dark Ages is available on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox PC, Steam, Battle.net, and PlayStation 5, and it is also playable through select Game Pass tiers.
