According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, actor Sir Patrick Stewart has passed away at the age of 86. Stewart spokesperson, Kelly Bush Novak, shared that he died after “a brief and poignant journey with Alzheimer’s disease and Lewy body dementia.”

Stewart was best known for his roles as Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation (and its various spinoffs) and Charles Xavier in the X-Men films, but he did plenty of video game performing, too. Stewart played Emperor Uriel Septim VII in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, one of the first characters you meet in the game, and Zobek in Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. He also played Jean-Luc Picard in about 10 different Star Trek games and Charles Xavier in five different X-Men games.

Stewart will always be a crucial voice and face in the legacy of sci-fi entertainment. Jean-Luc Picard will undoubtedly be an enduring and important character in the Star Trek franchise, and that’s thanks to Stewart’s portrayal of the starship captain. His portrayal of Charles Xavier also helped to legitimize the comic book movie, and he will appear again as the character in this year’s upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.

Our thoughts are with his friends and family, and the millions of fans (of which I include myself) who are mourning his loss. Let’s all drink some Earl Grey tea in his honor today.
