Samsung is bringing AI-generated visuals in the humble Calendar app

Samsung is betting that even your calendar deserves a dose of artificial intelligence. With One UI 8.5, Samsung is making the Calendar app (version 12.7.05.36) feel more dynamic and context-aware.

The most eye-catching change is the addition of AI-generated visuals to the Calendar widget, a move that suggests the company thinks visual context matters even for everyday scheduling. The idea is simple but a little unusual. Samsung is introducing AI-generated background images for the Countdown widget in Calendar, where the visuals are created based on the title of an upcoming event.

Instead of a plain card counting down the days, the widget can display an image that reflects what the event is about, making it easier to spot at a glance. This feature is listed as part of the update, although early testing by SamMobile suggests it may not be fully active yet for all users, indicating Samsung could be rolling it out gradually rather than flipping the switch all at once.

How Samsung is expanding Calendar beyond visuals

The AI visuals are only part of the update. Samsung is also using this refresh to make Calendar more flexible and easier to use on a daily basis. Natural language search is being added, allowing users to find events by typing conversational phrases instead of exact titles.

That means you can search the way you normally speak and still get useful results. The app also gains the option to hide past schedules, mark reminders as complete directly inside Calendar, and attach multiple images to events for extra context.

Alongside Calendar, Samsung is polishing its Reminder app with a smaller but practical change. A new early alert setting lets users decide how far in advance reminders should notify them, which is useful for planning tasks that need more lead time.

Together, these updates show Samsung leaning into AI and quality of life tweaks at the same time, turning a humble calendar into something more dynamic without completely changing how it works.

These changes are appearing alongside a wider set of One UI 8.5 features that are still taking shape in beta. Samsung has been testing AI photo tools that could let users move objects between images using text prompts, along with smarter editing features aimed at improving vacation photos. The company has also opened One UI 8.5 beta program on the Galaxy S25, where you can check out the new AI-driven software updates.
