As promised, Rivian has started deliveries of its R2 electric SUV. The first version reaching buyers is the R2 Performance with Launch Package, which starts at $57,990 before fees.

That model gives early R2 customers the most powerful version in the confirmed lineup. It comes with dual-motor all-wheel drive, 656 horsepower, 609 lb-ft of torque, and an EPA-estimated range of up to 330 miles. Rivian claims it can go from 0 to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds.

What the first R2 brings to buyers

Along with its performance upgrades, the trim includes semi-active suspension, heated and ventilated seats, Birch wood interior accents, a 975-watt premium audio system, Matrix LED headlights, and terrain-focused drive modes such as Rally and Soft Sand. The limited-time Launch Package adds Autonomy+, Launch Green paint, and a tow package rated for 4,400 pounds.

Every R2 also comes with a native NACS charging port, allowing owners to use Tesla’s Supercharger network. That should make charging on longer trips easier, especially compared with older EVs that had fewer reliable charging options.

Rivian’s lower-priced trims arrive later

The lower-priced R2 trims will follow after the launch model. The Premium trim is expected later in 2026 with a starting price of $53,990, 450 horsepower, 537 lb-ft of torque, a 4.6-second 0 to 60 mph time, and up to 330 miles of range.

The Standard RWD Long Range trim is scheduled for the first half of 2027 at $48,490. It uses a single-motor rear-wheel-drive setup with 350 horsepower, a 5.9-second 0 to 60 mph time, and an estimated range of up to 345 miles. Rivian is also expected to offer a lower-cost Standard variant later in 2027 at around $45,000 with more than 275 miles of range.

While the initial deliveries are for the fastest and best-equipped version of the SUV, the broader demand for the R2 will likely depend on how much of its cabin comfort and utility Rivian can carry over to the cheaper trims.
