Pokémon Legends: Z-A was announced last year as the series’ return to the Kalos region of Pokémon X and Y. Now, The Pokémon Company has announced that it’s launching on October 16 on both Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. And on the latter, digital and physical editions of Pokémon Legends: Z-A can be upgraded to the Switch 2 Edition via an upgrade pack that will offer improved graphics and frame rates.

The Pokémon Company revealed this news today via a quick post on X, with new key art to accompany the announcement. You can check out the full version of the key art below, which features the protagonist and one of the best starters, Totodile, and various other Pokémon trainers will find in Lumiose City, the Paris-inspired metropolis first seen in Pokémon X and Y.

Today’s news follows last month’s big Switch 2 direct, where we learned Pokémon Legends: Z-A would be getting a Switch 2 Edition, though it didn’t detail what to expect. Now we know the upgraded edition will feature improved resolution and frame rates.

In related news, The Pokémon Company has revealed that the next Pokémon Presents presentation will air on Tuesday, July 22. Plus, ahead of the release of Pokémon Legends: Z-A, Mega Evolution-themed products and experiences will hit Pokémon Centers worldwide and via online retailers. Starting today, fans can collect giant pins featuring Mega Charizard X and Mega Charizard Y, as well as shop from a capsule collection of apparel and accessories showing other Mega-Evolved Pokémon like Venusaur, Gengar, Lucario, and more.

Finally, anyone who preorders Pokémon Legends: Z-A at a Pokémon Center in the U.S., Canada, or the U.K. will be able to receive a random Pokémon Sitting Cuties plush featuring Chikorita, Tepig, or Totodile as a gift with the purchase.

The Switch 2 launches next week on June 5. Pokémon Legends: Z-A launches on Switch and Switch 2 later this year on October 16.
