JBL is looking to change the way we think about “open-ear” listening with the launch of two new models: the JBL Sense Pro and JBL Sense Lite. These aren’t your typical earbuds that plug your ears; instead, they use clever air-conduction technology to beam music into your ears while leaving you fully aware of the world around you. It’s a major refresh for JBL, focusing on making open-ear audio actually sound good enough for daily use.
The big promise with the Sense Pro and Sense Lite is that you no longer have to choose between hearing your surroundings and hearing your bass. Both models use JBL OpenSound technology, which directs audio toward your ear without sealing the canal. It’s a design built for people who want to stay safe while running, hear their coworkers in the office, or just hate the feeling of silicone tips inside their ears.
Open-air audio tech is the next big thing for JBL
According to Carsten Olesen, President of Consumer Audio at HARMAN, JBL has finally cracked the code on delivering “full, bass-rich sound” through the air—a feat that has historically been the biggest weakness of open-ear tech. The goal is to move these headphones from a niche safety tool to a mainstream choice for music lovers.
The Sense Pro is the powerhouse of the pair. It’s packed with massive 16.2mm drivers, supports Hi-Res Audio, and uses an Adaptive Bass Boost Algorithm to make sure the music doesn’t sound thin. JBL also went all-in on call quality, using four microphones and a “Voice Pickup Sensor” to make sure you sound clear even if you’re taking a call on a windy street or a busy bus. It also features a premium, adjustable hook for a more secure fit.
The Sense Lite is for those who just want something simple and comfortable
It’s lighter, finished in soft silicone, and designed to disappear on your ear. While it’s not as “pro” on the audio specs, it still offers adaptive bass and a solid 32 hours of battery life. Plus, an IP54 rating means it can handle sweat and a bit of rain without an issue.
Both models play nice with Google Fast Pair and the JBL Headphones app for deep customization. The Pro version adds some nice-to-have extras like wireless charging and Bluetooth 6.0, pushing total battery life to 38 hours.
The JBL Sense Pro will hit shelves for $199.95 in March 2026, with the Sense Lite following at $149.95. As more people look for ways to stay connected to their environment without giving up their playlists, JBL’s latest lineup proves that “open” doesn’t have to mean “empty” when it comes to sound.
