Apple leaks are usually about cameras or performance, but this time, it’s the color that’s stealing the spotlight. And honestly, it’s giving… Kindle energy? Because if the latest reports are accurate, the iPhone 18 Pro might finally ditch flashy tones for something a lot more classy and familiar.

iPhone 18 Pro’s new “Dark Cherry” color is the main attraction

According to a report from Macworld, Apple is working on a new signature color called Dark Cherry for the iPhone 18 Pro lineup. Think of it as a deep, wine-like red, which is far more subtle than last year’s loud Cosmic Orange.

This shade is expected to replace Cosmic Orange as the standout finish, and it leans heavily into that premium, muted aesthetic Apple has been experimenting with lately. It’s not trying to scream for attention per se, but it’s definitely trying to look expensive. Alongside Dark Cherry, Apple is reportedly testing a few other colors too, including Light Blue, Dark Gray, and the classic Silver.

Why this feels oddly familiar (hello, Kindle vibes)

Here’s the fun part. That deep, matte, slightly desaturated red? It’s not entirely new. If it feels familiar, that’s because devices like the Kindle have been rocking similar muted tones for a while now. You know, colors that look less “techy” and more like lifestyle accessories. And that’s exactly the shift Apple seems to be making. Instead of bold, flashy finishes, it’s leaning into softer, richer tones that feel more premium and timeless. Basically, less “look at me,” more “I belong in a luxury catalog.”

Amazon Kindle Scribe Colorsoft

Of course, these are still early leaks, and Apple has a habit of changing things at the last minute. But if Dark Cherry does make the cut, it might end up being one of those rare iPhone colors that actually feels fresh by borrowing a vibe that already works.
