iPhone 17e might finally embrace a modern redesign as a leak hints at an impending launch

The iPhone 16e might not be the most modern-looking iPhone on the market, but it surely offers some excellent specifications (I said some). This year, Apple will improve its affordable handset with a set of significant upgrades, giving it a modern look and feel and making it as fast as the iPhone 17.

Digital Chat Station, a Chinese tipster, claims that the iPhone 17e “will debut in the first half of the year” in a Weibo post. While that could be anytime between January and June, the iPhone 16e’s launch timeline could help narrow the launch window.

A familiar launch window for the iPhone 17e

Last year, Apple began accepting pre-orders for the iPhone 16e on February 19, and nine days later, on February 28, the phone became available for sale. Even so, there have been rumors that the iPhone 17e will drop in early 2026.

Hence, I believe the iPhone 17e could break cover in either February or March, depending on any last-minute changes due to logistical issues in making the phone available across different regions. Keep in mind that Apple often announces new products on Tuesdays or Wednesdays.

The tipster also writes about the iPhone 17e’s key specifications, the most important of which is the Dynamic Island replacing the ugly notch on the iPhone 16e. With that, the handset should also get the Face ID facial recognition.

Apple’s cheapest 2026 iPhone is also said to feature a 6.1-inch 60Hz LTPS OLED screen, which could be borrowed from the iPhone 15 (since it was the first non-Pro iPhone to sport the Dynamic Island). If that’s the case, expect the iPhone 17e’s screen to be noticeably brighter than the outgoing model’s.

Under the hood, the iPhone 17e could feature the same processor as the iPhone 17 — Apple’s A19 chip — giving it a slight performance boost, enough to support on-device Gemini models that power the new, enhanced Siri.

While those are the details shared by the tipster, we’ve also heard rumors that the iPhone 17e will feature the Center Stage front camera Apple debuted with the iPhone 17 series.
