Google has recently released many updates introducing new features to its AI suite, and the latest one could save users dealing with documents a lot of tedious work. The company has added the ability to create, preview, and edit documents, PDFs, presentations, spreadsheets, and code directly within Gemini conversations. Previously, you could generate and download files, but now you can work on them without leaving the chat.
You can now make changes without starting over
Say you’re a student with handwritten lecture notes. You can upload photos, ask Gemini to turn them into a PDF study guide, and preview the result inside the conversation. If something looks wrong, you can expand the file to full screen and correct it yourself. You can also highlight specific sections and ask Gemini to rewrite them, answer questions, or make changes to visuals. Beyond students, I can see this being useful for anyone who regularly prepares reports, presentations, or spreadsheets.
There is one limitation worth keeping in mind. PDF preview and editing work on both mobile and web, while Google Docs, Sheets, presentations, Markdown, TXT, and code files are currently supported on the web only. Google says the new capabilities are available to all users in languages and regions where the Gemini app is supported.
Google has had quite a busy month in AI
Google has been on a roll lately. Earlier this month, it made Gemini 4 Argon available to paid subscribers, followed by Gemini 4 Carbon, which recently topped Artificial Analysis’ Intelligence Index. Meanwhile, Google has continued adding practical features to Gemini, including interactive learning experiences, better app integrations, and now the ability to edit files directly inside conversations.
