Google has been steadily weaving Gemini deeper into its productivity tools, and Google Docs has been one of the biggest beneficiaries. With Gemini in Google Docs, you can already summarize long documents, draft and rewrite text, generate outlines, and even get answers to questions based on the content of a file. Now, Google is rolling out another set of Gemini-powered features in Docs that will help streamline creating a first draft, refining content, updating formatting, and even matching writing styles.

Google says Gemini’s new “Help me create” feature turns it into a “collaborative partner” that can generate fully formatted first drafts by pulling in relevant content from your emails, chats, files, and the web. When creating a new draft, users can choose whether Gemini should search for related information in Drive, Gmail, Chat, or the web, and the assistant will automatically pull in details from the selected sources based on the prompt.

Google is also rolling out a new “Refine” feature that lets you polish sections of your draft by simply copying the text and selecting the Refine option in the pop-up. The feature can also be used to edit the entire document at once with a prompt like “make this doc more professional while keeping the tone energetic.”

Finally, Gemini is getting new “Match writing style” and “Match doc format” features that will help you quickly align the tone and writing style throughout your document and format it in accordance with a reference document. For instance, it can copy the format of a stock travel itinerary template and populate it with your flight, hotel, and other details with just a click.

These new Gemini features in Google Docs are rolling out to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers globally in US English and will also be available to enterprise users on the Gemini Alpha business plan.
