Gemini can now create documents, slides, meetings and more in chat

Google is expanding the role of its Gemini AI assistant by integrating it directly into Google Chat, allowing users to create documents, slides, and manage tasks without leaving conversations. The update introduces a new feature called “Ask Gemini in Chat,” positioning Chat as a central hub not just for communication, but for getting work done.

With this integration, users can type a request in natural language, and Gemini will handle the task in the background. This includes generating Google Docs, building presentations, scheduling meetings, and retrieving files based on simple descriptions. The goal is to reduce the need to switch between apps within the Workspace ecosystem.

Turning Chat Into A Command Center

The new experience treats Google Chat as a command interface for work. Instead of navigating through multiple tools, users can simply state what they need. Gemini then processes the request and delivers the output directly within the chat thread.

The assistant also introduces a daily briefing feature, which highlights important tasks, unread conversations, and urgent action items. This gives users a quick overview of what needs attention without manually checking different apps.

Another key addition is deeper integration with third-party tools. Gemini can now connect with platforms like Asana, Jira, and Salesforce, allowing users to access information and complete tasks across external services from within Chat. This expands its functionality beyond Google’s own ecosystem.

Why This Matters For Workplace Productivity

The update reflects a broader shift in how AI is being integrated into work environments. Instead of existing as a separate tool, Gemini is being embedded directly into everyday workflows. This approach reduces friction by combining communication and execution in one place. It also signals Google’s intent to compete more aggressively in the AI productivity space, where tools are increasingly focused on automating routine tasks.

By enabling users to create content, manage schedules, and access data from a single interface, Google is positioning Chat as more than just a messaging platform.

What It Means For Users

For users, this integration could simplify daily workflows. Tasks that previously required multiple steps – such as drafting a document or scheduling a meeting – can now be handled through a single prompt. It also makes collaboration more efficient, as outputs are generated directly within shared conversations. Teams can review, edit, and act on content without switching between apps.

Google Gemini on Phone

However, the effectiveness of this system will depend on how accurately Gemini understands requests and how reliably it integrates with different tools.

What Comes Next

Google is expected to continue expanding Gemini’s capabilities within Workspace, adding more integrations and refining its understanding of complex tasks. As AI becomes more deeply embedded into productivity tools, the focus will likely shift toward improving accuracy and reducing friction further.

The long-term goal appears to be clear: turning everyday work conversations into actionable workflows, where communication and execution happen in the same place.
