There are useful apps, there are pointless app,s and then there is SlapMac, which sits in a category all by itself.

This app has gone viral online for one very stupid (and fun) reason: it makes your MacBook play sound effects when you slap it. Just spank your Mac and hear it moan, fart, or throw punches. The app creator has apparently made $5,000 in just three days, which is what makes the story even more absurd.

How does it work?

SlapMac reportedly uses the MacBook’s motion sensors to detect impact, then responds with a sound effect when the laptop is hit. There are currently eight voice packs to choose from. The develop said the whole thing was built in 48 hours, including the Swift app, landing page, and licensing setup. It was initially put up for $5, and sales apparently kicked off immediately, with no signs of slowing down. The tiny paid MacOS app is currently selling for just $3, and growing in popularity as a joke.

It has even more features now

What really pushes this into cursed-tech territory is that SlapMac apparently isn’t stopping at the base gag. The develop is actively working on this software, adding extra features like USB Moaner, which does exactly what you think it does. The app even lets you adjust the sensitivity, set a cooldown timer, and offers a lifetime slap counter if you want hard data on how often you’ve assaulted your computer.

So it has evolved beyond a meme, becoming a proper product with a genuine roadmap.

There is no practical reason for SlapMac to exist, and that is exactly why it took off so fast. It is silly, juvenile, and most importantly, mildly amusing. So no, you probably should not try the app that makes your MacBook moan… wink.
