David Harbour Announces Total War: Warhammer 40,000 At The Game Awards

Total War, the real-time strategy series, first fully crossed over with Warhammer in 2016, but after three entries in the classic Warhammer continuity, the series is venturing into the distant future with Total War: Warhammer 40,000. The game was revealed at the Game Awards by none other than Stranger Things star David Harbour, who also said he’ll appear in the game. You can see the announcement trailer here and see some images from it below.

“Experience the brutal fusion of galactic strategy and grimdark warfare in Total War: Warhammer 40,000,” the trailer’s description reads on YouTube. “Take command of iconic factions, customise your war machine, and engage in devastating battles as you carve a bloody warpath across the stars.” The trailer ends with a glimpse of gameplay, though we see plenty of iconic factions and images from the Warhammer 40k franchise, though it is, perhaps unsurprisingly, space marine-centric.

A press release confirmed four playable factions, however: Space Marines, Astra Militarum, Orks, and Aeldari. That same press release also promises that players will be able to create their own armies as well. “For the first time in Total War, forge an army that’s truly your own,” it reads. “Shape every detail from the faction’s title, heraldry, iconography and arcane wargear. Define their traits, sharpen their tactics, and unleash a signature style of destruction that leaves your mark upon the galaxy.”

Total War: Warhammer 40,000 will launch not just on PC, like the series normally does, but also on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

For info on another Warhammer 40K RTS, check out senior associate editor Wesley Leblanc’s Gamescom impressions of Warhammer 40,000: Dawn Of War IV.
