Chrome on your iPhone now offers a smarter, Gemini-powered browsing experience

Google Chrome for iOS is getting a massive Gemini-powered upgrade that unlocks a smarter browsing experience for iPhone and iPad users. According to 9to5Google, it replaces the Lens button to the left of the address bar with a new button with the Gemini spark.

Tapping on this new button brings up a Page tools sheet featuring two options: “Search screen” and “Ask Gemini”. The latter opens an Ask Gemini window with a text box that lets users input prompts to ask Gemini questions related to the current webpage. The window also features two suggestion chips at the top to help users quickly summarize the page or “Create FAQ about this topic.”

On tapping the Summarize page chip, Gemini offers users key takeaways and insights about the page. Meanwhile, the FAQ chip generates frequently asked questions based on information on the webpage and similar sites. Chrome for iOS reportedly also shows a few other sample queries that let users ask Gemini to explain a complex topic differently, help them test their knowledge on a subject, modify recipes to meet their dietary needs, or compare information and make recommendations based on their preferences.

Gemini’s responses to these queries appear in an overlay that floats on top of the webpage, much like the Gemini overlay on Android. This overlay features two buttons in the top right corner to start a new Gemini chat or open an overflow menu to rate the response, copy it, or open settings.

Gemini in Chrome for iOS is reportedly available in version 143 in the US when the browser’s language is set to English. Users must be signed in to Chrome to see the new button, and it’s not available in Incognito mode.
