Asus is gearing up to launch a new tablet, and thanks to a fresh leak from AndroidHeadlines, we have our first good look at both its design and the specs. Before we get into the numbers, let’s talk about how it looks.
The Asus Pad features uniform, ultra-thin bezels all around, giving it that premium, modern look. The frame is metal with a slightly curved profile, while the back is completely flat. I like the curved frame as it will make the tablet easier to hold.
There’s a small camera island in the top-left corner that protrudes slightly, housing a single camera and an LED flash. Not the most exciting camera setup, but I guess it will get the job done.

So, what’s under the hood?
As per leaks, the Asus Pad will pack a 12.2-inch dual-layer OLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate and Dolby Vision support. That’s a big, beautiful screen, and combined with Dolby Atmos and stereo speakers, this thing seems built for media consumption.

That being said, we don’t know whether the dual-layer OLED is the same as Apple’s Tandem OLED display, just with a different naming scheme. We hope it is, as it will ensure a higher peak brightness, making the Asus Pad more useful in harsh lighting conditions.
The Asus Pad weighs only 523 grams and measures just 6.5mm thin, which is impressively light for a tablet of this size. There’s also a 9,000mAh battery powering the tablet, and fast charging is confirmed, though leaks haven’t revealed the exact wattage just yet.
What about accessories?
At least one official case will be available at launch. It appears to be a see-through plastic case with a multifunctional origami-style stand that props the tablet up in different positions.

The folding pattern seems similar to the PITAKA case I use with my iPad Pro, and if it can deliver the same features and quality, customers will be happy with it.
There’s no confirmed launch date yet, but with this much information already floating around, an official announcement shouldn’t be too far off.
