Apple’s upcoming low-cost laptop could be the MacBook Neo

Apple may be gearing up to introduce a lower-cost MacBook as early as this week, and according to an accidental mention on Apple’s own support site, it could be called the MacBook Neo. The name briefly made an appearance in a support document URL, which has now been removed.

MacBook Neo might be the new entry-level Apple laptop

The discovery was first spotted in a support page for a short time before Apple pulled it. The page included the term “MacBook Neo” in a short support URL, and it even appeared in search previews as a distinct product with the A3404 model number. So either Apple slipped an internal placeholder or accidentally confirmed the name of the upcoming product ahead of the official announcement.

Why it might be the rumored low-cost model

The company just unveiled the M5 series MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, and this could be the new model that is positioned right below the two. Companies often use the “Neo” branding to signify a more affordable entry in a series, so this name seems like the perfect fit for the budget MacBook. Early reports had hinted at a $599 price tag, but more recent info suggests a higher starting price of around $749.

Macbook air

To achieve this lower cost, Apple is expected to equip the new MacBook with an A-series chip (A18 Pro or A19 Pro) that powers its iPhone series. This wouldn’t be the first time Apple explored accessible Mac hardware, as the original MacBook line (discontinued in 2019) occupied a similar position.
