Apple might have new products ready to go, but it’s just not launching them yet. According to a recent report from Bloomberg, inventory for devices like the HomePod, HomePod mini, and Apple TV is running low across Apple Stores globally.

Normally, that’s a clear sign that refreshed models are around the corner. But this time, there’s a twist. Apple is reportedly holding back releases because its next-generation Siri and AI features aren’t ready yet.

Why are these products being delayed?

The main reason here is that Siri is still playing catch-up. The report suggests Apple has had updated versions of at least the HomePod mini and Apple TV ready since last year, but chose not to launch them while waiting for its new AI-powered Siri experience. The idea was likely to debut improved hardware alongside smarter software. Unfortunately, those AI upgrades are still not ready.

Apple HomePod with Apple iPhone

Interestingly, while these AI features are expected to be core to a future Apple smart home hub, they’re more of an add-on for devices like the HomePod and Apple TV. That raises the possibility that Apple may eventually release the hardware anyway, rather than keep waiting indefinitely.

What does this mean for Apple’s plans?

The supply situation right now is… a bit all over the place. The HomePod mini is basically playing hide and seek, with limited store availability and shipping delays creeping into next month. The regular HomePod is holding on a little better, while the Apple TV is still widely available like nothing’s wrong.

Apple TV with Remote

All of these point to Apple being stuck in a bit of a waiting game. The hardware seems ready, but Siri’s AI glow-up isn’t, and Apple doesn’t quite want to launch one without the other. At some point, though, it’ll have to choose: keep waiting for Siri to catch up, or just ship the products anyway. Either way, the delays are starting to spill over from software… into actual product launches.
