Amazon is giving Alexa+ a bit more personality. The company has introduced new chat styles that let you change how the voice assistant responds to you, ranging from calm and friendly tones to something a little bolder.

One of the new options can even throw in censored profanity, adding a cheeky edge to conversations with your smart speaker.

What are the new chat styles on Alexa+?

Last month, Amazon rolled out three new personalities for Alexa+ that can change how the assistant talks.

A Brief style focuses on short, direct responses without extra commentary. Chill delivers answers in a more relaxed and conversational tone. Whereas, Sweet leans toward warm and enthusiastic replies.

These styles do not change what Alexa can do. They simply change how it speaks. You can switch between them using voice commands or through the Alexa app settings.

The new Sassy style brings sarcasm and censored swearing

The latest addition to Alexa’s growing personality is the Sassy style. This personality gives Alexa a sharper, more playful tone and can respond with sarcasm or witty remarks. In some cases, it may even include censored profanity, something Alexa traditionally avoided.

However, the Sassy personality style will not be available when Amazon Kids is enabled. When you turn on the Sassy option in the Alexa mobile app, you will see a warning that the style may use explicit language.

This is why Alexa requires a security check for adults before enabling it. On iOS devices, that verification can include a Face ID scan.

You can switch between styles or return to the standard Alexa at any time using a voice command or the Alexa app. Since personality settings are tied to individual devices, you will need to choose a style separately for each device.

The idea of custom AI personalities is not entirely new. For instance, ChatGPT 5.1 introduced eight different personality styles last year, offering warmer tones and quicker replies to suit different conversations.

With this update, Amazon hopes to make Alexa+ feel more personal and conversational. Instead of every response sounding the same, you can now choose a style that better matches how you like interacting with your assistant.
