The iPhone Duo has barely been out for a day, and someone’s already found a way to run their Mac on it. Well, sort of. Headroom, a remote desktop app from MusicFlow, lets users control their Mac from Apple’s new foldable phone, with an interface that adapts as the device opens, closes, and folds in half. Think of it as turning a pocket-sized phone into a miniature MacBook, minus the actual MacBook.

Headroom turns the iPhone Duo into a mini Mac

Headroom connects directly to macOS’s built-in Screen Sharing feature, so there’s no extra software to install on the Mac and no Headroom account or intermediary server required. Once Screen Sharing is enabled, users can access their Mac remotely. The app was originally built to let its developer keep an eye on an AI agent working on a Mac from the sofa, which feels like a very 2026 problem to have.

The clever part is how Headroom handles the iPhone Duo’s folding design. Half-open like a laptop, the Mac appears on the upper screen while a software keyboard occupies the lower one. Fold it fully open, and the Mac fills the inner display. Close the phone, and the outer screen works independently. The interface also keeps controls away from the hinge, so nothing important gets awkwardly sliced across the fold. Hardware keyboard users get a bonus, too: the lower screen can become a panel of large keys.

It works beyond the iPhone Duo, too

Headroom isn’t just a folding-phone party trick. It also runs on iPad and Mac, supports 17 languages, and uses Apple’s Metal graphics technology alongside ZRLE compression to keep remote screen rendering smooth. Users can interact through touch or a mouse, with support for gestures such as scrolling, dragging, and zooming. For access outside the home network, the developer recommends using a VPN such as Tailscale.

The app is free to try, while a one-time Pro purchase removes the connection time limit. For anyone who needs to check on a desktop Mac, manage a headless Mac mini, or simply poke an AI agent from the couch, Headroom offers a neat way to do it. The iPhone Duo may not replace a MacBook just yet, but it can apparently borrow its desk job.
