“Limited” is a great marketing word because it lets brands avoid disclosing actual stock numbers. For prospective customers, though, it’s frustrating. Even with cash in hand, they don’t know whether they’ll leave the store with the product.

That uncertainty is now playing out with Apple’s first foldable. The company said Wednesday that its stores will carry a “limited” supply of the iPhone Duo for walk-in shoppers on Friday, October 23, 2026, the day general availability begins, without specifying how many.

Why is the iPhone Duo so hard to find?

I’d blame the pre-order stampede. Even at $1,999, Apple sold out its first foldable within minutes of pre-orders opening on October 16, with delivery dates slipping to January 2027 almost immediately.

After that, the company limited pre-order units to two per customer to deter scalpers. That might explain the initial supply delay and the limited stock available for walk-in customers on October 23.

However, there’s more to it than exceptional demand. Analysts believe the iPhone Duo’s hinge, the intricate joint that lets the phone fold while remaining virtually invisible when unfolded, is trickier to manufacture at scale than a regular slab iPhone’s display (via Reuters).

As a result, moving iPhone Duo’s assembly lines could take a bit longer than a regular iPhone. The good news, however, is that Apple says it’s “working hard” to speed things up.

Computer, Electronics, Laptop

Where can you actually walk in on Friday?

For now, where you live matters more than how early you wake up, because Apple says walk-in availability varies by country.

In the US, Mexico, Canada, Australia, and much of Europe, including Germany, Spain, and the UK, you can show up without an order or collect one placed online. Singapore also offers walk-in stock, while Macao is walk-in only (via 9to5Mac).

Buyers in India, Japan, mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, the UAE, and France can only pick up an existing order. If you’re in a walk-in country, I’d go early and bring patience. Still staring at a January date? Check your order, because some buyers report earlier dates.
