Netflix is officially bringing the demon slaying Kpop idols back. The streaming giant has officially confirmed that a sequel to KPop Demon Hunters is now in development, following the success of the animated musical action film that blended fantasy battles with pop stardom.

The original movie followed the members of a fictional KPop girl group Huntrix. They perform as global pop stars, but in secret, they protect the world from supernatural threats through their magical singing.

Inside Netflix’s plans for the KPop Demon Hunters sequel

Netflix confirmed that the sequel will reunite the creative team behind the first film. Directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans are returning to guide the next chapter of the story. The new project continues Netflix’s collaboration with Sony Pictures Animation, which helped bring the original film to life.

The sequel would most likely expand the world of the demon-hunting pop group and explore more of the characters and mythology introduced in the first movie.

While Netflix has not revealed specific plot details yet, the story is expected to continue following the adventures of Huntrix members Rumi, Mira, and Zoey as they balance their double lives as performers and supernatural warriors.

The first film resonated with audiences because it combined two very different worlds. It celebrated Kpop culture while also embracing fantasy action and humor. The soundtrack and stylized animation helped the movie build a strong fan base across multiple countries.

When would the KPop Demon Hunters sequel arrive?

Netflix has not announced a release date for the sequel yet. Some speculation has pointed to a possible 2029 timeline, but that remains uncertain given how long major animated productions typically take.

Directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans are still in the early development stage and will focus on the sequel after the current awards season.

The original film is also widely seen as a strong contender at the Oscars this weekend, particularly for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for “Golden.”

Since the KPop Demon Hunters sequel may still be a long way off, here are some of the best movies you can stream on Netflix right now to keep you entertained in the meantime.
