Sony wants you guessing with its cryptic audio teaser

Sony has teased an upcoming audio launch with the promise of a “new form of listening,” and it is already sparking curiosity among fans who are trying to figure out what Sony has in store for them next week.

The teaser comes from Sony’s official YouTube channel and points to an audio-focused announcement scheduled for January 21 at 4PM UTC (8AM PST). There are no product names or specs, except for a short message and a shadowy image that hints this is not a routine refresh.

What Sony could be hinting at

GSMArena reports that Sony is most likely preparing to unveil the LinkBuds Clip (WF-LC900). These earbuds are said to use an open-ear design that clips around the earlobe instead of sitting inside the ear.

An early listing from an Indonesian retailer has already revealed the design along with several key features. The earbuds are expected to support adaptive volume control, 360 Reality Audio, and the background music effect seen on earlier LinkBuds models.

The same listing points to dual microphones with AI-based noise reduction for calls, along with bone conduction sensors. Users could also get a 10-band EQ inside Sony’s app, support for connecting to two devices simultaneously, and an IPX4 rating for splash resistance.

Battery life is suggested to last nine hours of playback on the earbuds, with the charging case pushing total playback to around 37 hours. The LinkBuds Clip is expected to launch in four colour options: Black, Beige, Sage, and Lavender, with a reported price of around $230.

There have been plenty of rumors around the Sony WF-1000XM6 lately. Given how much people loved the Sony WH-1000XM6, the excitement for Sony’s next flagship wireless earbuds is quite high. However, the latest rumors suggest those will arrive later, possibly on February 27, 2026.

For now, Sony is keeping details locked down. With the launch just days away, the mystery will not last long, and Sony will soon have to show whether this new form of listening is a genuine shift or simply a new spin on familiar audio tech.
