OnePlus’ upcoming battery monster phone shows its face, and its looks awfully familiar

A new OnePlus smartphone called the OnePlus Turbo has surfaced in a fresh set of leaks. Folks over at Android Headlines have gotten their hands on live images of the handset, giving us our first proper look at the smartphone. Visually, the phone looks… familiar.

As seen in the pictures, the phone has a glossy back panel with a dual-camera setup at the top left (placed on a raised platform). The sides look like they’re made of textured plastic, while the front panel houses a punch-hole screen with minimal (and symmetrical) bezels on all sides.

Familiar design language, massive battery

While the right frame of the OnePlus Turbo houses the power and volume buttons, the top frame houses microphones and the IR blaster. At the bottom is the primary speaker grill, the USB-C port, and the SIM tray.

If the design looks and sounds familiar, it is because the handset follows a template we’ve seen on recent OnePlus smartphones like the OnePlus 15 and OnePlus 15R. From what it looks like, the company is adopting a strategy similar to Samsung’s, in which it follows a consistent design language across all models, from flagships to mid-rangers.

Alongside the familiar design, the OnePlus Turbo will reportedly offer a 6.8″ 1.5K OLED screen that offers a refresh rate of 144Hz. Under the hood, the smartphone could run on the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4, paired with 8GB of RAM, and either 128GB or 256GB of storage.

Regarding optics, the purported handset could sport a 50MP primary camera, an 8MP ultrawide sensor, and a 32MP selfie shooter. Another major highlight of the handset is the 9,000 mAh battery, which puts the combined battery capacity of the most popular Samsung and Apple flagships to shame.

Realistically speaking, the battery on the OnePlus Turbo should easily last over a day with moderate usage, turning the “two-day” battery life from a point of discussion among enthusiasts to reality.

However, the battery might support only 80W wired charging, taking around an hour and a half for a full charge. Out of the box, the handset could run on OxygenOS 16 based on Android 16.

Moreover, the handset looks like a perfect choice for buyers who prioritize battery life and are willing to compromise on flagship performance and cameras. If I were to speculate, the OnePlus Turbo could debut outside of China with a different moniker, perhaps in the “CE” lineup.
