You can now watch Reels on the big screen with Instagram for TV

Back in October, Instagram chief Adam Mosseri revealed plans to release a dedicated TV app that would let users binge Reels on the big screen, transforming the way users experience Instagram at home. That vision has finally come to life, as Instagram for TV is now available on Amazon Fire TV devices.

Instagram for TV, unlike the app on your phone, only displays short form video from the platform on your TV screen. In its announcement, Amazon notes that the app organizes Reels into channels based on your interests and supports up to five accounts, allowing everyone in your household to watch Reels with their own personalized recommendations.

The app even lets you create a separate account specifically for TV and includes search functionality “to help you find your favorite creators, explore profiles, and dive into topics you care about.” Likes, comments, and reactions are also supported, along with sharing and reposts, allowing for a more engaging and social experience.

Instagram for TV is available through the Amazon Appstore

Instagram for TV is currently limited to the US on select Fire TV models. You can download the app from the Amazon Appstore on the Fire TV Stick HD, Fire TV Stick 4K Plus, Fire TV Stick 4K Max (1st and 2nd Gen), Fire TV 2-Series, Fire TV 4-series, and Fire TV Omni QLED series. Meta hasn’t shared plans to expand availability to more regions or smart TVs yet, but it’s likely only a matter of time before the app reaches users worldwide on other platforms.

By launching a dedicated TV app, Instagram is aiming to grab a slice of the short-form video audience that YouTube Shorts and TikTok have already cornered on smart TVs. The move gives viewers more choice and flexibility, letting them enjoy Reels alongside other short-form content on the big screen.
