Father’s Day doesn’t always call for sentimental dramas or emotional family movies. Sometimes the best way to celebrate is by kicking back with an action-packed blockbuster. Whether your dad prefers classic action heroes, explosive set pieces, or modern thrillers, Netflix has plenty of options worth streaming. These are the Netflix action movies that are perfect for Father’s Day viewing.

If you’re looking for even more explosive action after Father’s Day, be sure to check out our roundup of the best Netflix action movies to watch this summer.

Godzilla Minus One

Not every Father’s Day movie needs to be a heartwarming family drama. Sometimes the best choice is simply a great movie that both generations can enjoy, and few recent action films fit that description better than Godzilla Minus One. The film follows Koichi Shikishima, a former kamikaze pilot trying to rebuild his life in post-war Japan when Godzilla emerges as a devastating new threat.

What makes Godzilla Minus One such a strong Father’s Day pick is that it combines old-school blockbuster spectacle with surprisingly mature storytelling. Beneath the monster action is a story about responsibility, resilience, and finding the courage to move forward after failure. It’s the kind of crowd-pleasing movie that offers plenty of thrills while still giving viewers something meaningful to talk about after the credits roll.

Extraction

Chris Hemsworth delivers one of his best action performances in Extraction, a fast-paced thriller that follows black-market mercenary Tyler Rake as he takes on a seemingly impossible mission. Hired to rescue the kidnapped son of an imprisoned crime lord, Rake finds himself battling heavily armed enemies across the streets of Dhaka while trying to keep his young charge alive.

What makes Extraction a particularly strong Father’s Day pick is that there’s more to it than explosive action and thrilling chase sequences. At its core, the film is driven by themes of loss, redemption, and the bond between a protector and a child. Hemsworth brings surprising emotional weight to the role, giving the movie a heart that elevates it above many action thrillers. For dads who enjoy action movies with both adrenaline and substance, Extraction remains one of Netflix’s most entertaining watches.

The Equalizer

Long before action franchises became obsessed with shared universes and larger-than-life spectacle, movies like The Equalizer proved that a compelling lead character is often all you need. Denzel Washington stars as Robert McCall, a quiet and unassuming man whose past catches up with him when he decides to help a young woman being exploited by Russian gangsters. What begins as a simple act of kindness quickly escalates into a brutal confrontation with powerful criminals.

Few actors command the screen quite like Washington, and The Equalizer gives him the perfect role to showcase his strengths. McCall isn’t the fastest or strongest action hero, but he succeeds through patience, intelligence, and experience. Those qualities make this an especially good Father’s Day watch, as the film’s appeal comes as much from its mature and thoughtful protagonist as it does from its action sequences. If your dad appreciates old-school action thrillers led by a charismatic star, The Equalizer is an easy recommendation.

The Old Guard

Superhero movies may dominate modern action cinema, but The Old Guard offers a refreshing twist on the genre. Charlize Theron stars as Andy, the leader of a small group of immortal warriors who have spent centuries fighting battles and protecting people around the world. Their secret existence is threatened when a powerful organization discovers their abilities and attempts to exploit them for its own gain.

What sets The Old Guard apart is that beneath the action and fantasy elements, it’s a story about legacy, responsibility, and looking after the next generation. The relationship between the seasoned warriors and newcomer Nile Freeman gives the film an emotional core that complements its impressive action sequences. For Father’s Day, it’s an easy pick for viewers who enjoy action movies with strong characters, meaningful themes, and just enough heart to make the story resonate long after the final fight.

Rebel Ridge

Some action movies rely on bigger explosions and increasingly elaborate set pieces to keep viewers engaged. Rebel Ridge takes a different approach. Aaron Pierre stars as Terry Richmond, a former Marine who arrives in a small town hoping to help his family, only to find himself caught in a battle against a deeply corrupt local system. As tensions escalate, Terry is forced to use his training, intelligence, and determination to fight back against those abusing their power.

What makes Rebel Ridge such a strong Father’s Day pick is that it prioritizes character and tension over spectacle. Terry Richmond is the kind of capable, resourceful protagonist that has long defined the best action thrillers, and Aaron Pierre delivers a quietly commanding performance throughout the film. Dads who appreciate smart heroes, practical problem-solving, and stories where determination matters more than superpowers will find a lot to enjoy here. It’s a modern action movie that succeeds by embracing many of the qualities that made the genre so popular in the first place.
